Airport Extreme PC USB drive sharing solution

Airport extreme USB drive sharing is NOT compatible with NTFS! Not even read only.
For those who want to use large PC formated usb drive 40-2TB with Airport extreme:

So i want to get my 60 gig+ USB hard drive to be used with my Airport Extreme AND compatible with PC and mac.

Apple website is misleading. It says "AirPort Disk turns almost any external USB hard drive into a shared drive"
No footnote about not compatible with NTFS! All my drives are NTFS:( Crap.

http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305038
"The AirPort Extreme (802.11n) supports USB storage devices that have a block size of 512 bytes, and are formatted as Mac OS Extended (HFS-plus), FAT16, or FAT32. Not all USB storage devices use a block size of 512 bytes."

Next best thing is fat32 but windows can't format larger than 32GB! My usb drive is 60GB and i don't want to partition.

I found a commandline utility that can format Fat32 up to 2TB!

http://www.ridgecrop.demon.co.uk/index.htm?fat32format.htm

My 60 gig quick formated in 4 seconds!

Also, Apple mentions that APE only works on single partition however i can get 2 partitions working no problem.

Airport Extreme 802.11n

I'm setting up wireless networking for the condo.
Went to the computer store to buy a Linksys WRT54G and came home with an Apple Airport Extreme:)

It costed just a bit more than the other 802.11n units so no problem. I decided to go 802.11n for the extra distance and 5x speed if you have n compatible hardware. All new Macbooks are n enabled.

On the plus side, the new Airport extreme has USB printer and USB disk support. Very cool! Any usb drive can act as a NAS however ( and i found out AFTER), it does NOT support NTFS! Hope a firmware upgrade will solve this soon.

It's amazing how easy this thing was to set up. Too easy. The unit is small with no ugly antennas.
Plug it in and in 1 minute im connected to my Macbook Pro! Sweeet!

It took me about half an hour to set my HP laptop. I cant seem to get it to work at all for my Dell. I gave up. I suspect the dell wireless software is at fault. Will try again next time.

Tested goin downstairs one floor down to the pool outside and connection is solid. There's thick concrete here so i was surprise it worked well with no drop in connection. Speed is identical if i was wired to the dsl. I just got a cheapo 256 kb dsl

I'll test the lan speed another day

Macbook Pro 17" glossy

Just got my Macbook pro 17" Core 2 duo 233 with the glossy screen option.
I chose the glossy over the matte for the work i do. Compositing and 3D.

This is one very cool machine and will replace my Dell Latitude D620. Here i'm transfering my pc data to the macbook. Goobye Dell!

I'm a diehard PC user and this is my first Mac. I find OSX and Mac Intel to be very nice so far and finding myself not wanting to boot to Windows as much.

I'm testing out Bootcamp, Parallels and Vmware Fusion beta for my PC apps. I'll post my findings later.

So far i'm learning the Mac workflow and getting the hang of things.
